Telecom service provider Batelco and Huawei have showcased 10Gbps GPON broadband solution for the first time at Batelco’s Chalet during (BIAS) 2014.
Huawei in a statement said Batelco chairman Hamad Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Batelco Bahrain CEO Rashid Abdulla and Huawei vice president Middle East Huang Ji, among others attended the live demonstration.
The two companies demonstrated the capabilities of the new technology through several services which during BIAS, including outdoors around the exhibition area. Visitors to Batelco’s Chalet had the opportunity to experience broadband speeds of up to 10Gbps and a live demonstration of the Batelco play OTT Entertainment Service.
Batelco and Huawei have installed a Wi-Fi solution to provide Wi-Fi service to the outdoor locations. Wi-Fi over the new 10Gbps technology provided the airshow spectators with stable ultra-high speed connectivity to enjoy and share the excitement of the event.
This latest 10G-GPON (Gigabit Passive Optic Network) technology is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain and Middle East region.
Batelco has deployed an FTTx broadband network covering key strategic enterprise and consumer areas around the Kingdom, and is looking forward to new technology which will compliment its fiber roll out.
“The technology will help deliver a more enriching communications experience for the public with Batelco being able to offer even better quality services for a superior customer experience,” said Batelco Bahrain CEO Rashid Abdulla.
