APAC Fixed Wireless Access Connections Set for Strong Growth Through 2030

Fixed wireless access (FWA) is emerging as a powerful solution for expanding broadband coverage across the Asia-Pacific region. According to GlobalData, total FWA subscriptions in APAC are projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 13.7 percent from 2025 to 2030. This surge reflects rising demand for high-speed and reliable internet in rural and underserved locations, as well as in areas where fiber rollout remains costly or impractical.

GlobalData’s Asia-Pacific Total Fixed Communications Forecast (Q3 2025) indicates that FWA connections will rise from 16 million in 2025 to 30 million by 2030. The growing availability of service options and recent FWA launches by regional operators are contributing to this momentum.

In India, state-run BSNL introduced its Quantum 5G FWA service in Hyderabad in June 2025, with plans to expand coverage to new cities before the end of the year. Private operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, which launched 5G FWA in 2023, continue to target both urban and rural households as they scale their offerings. In the Philippines, PLDT and Smart Communications are accelerating FWA deployments to enhance connectivity in remote communities.

Kantipudi Pradeepthi, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, notes that the evolution of 5G networks is central to the expansion of FWA. Leveraging existing 5G infrastructure enables faster and more economical broadband deployment compared to traditional fiber, making markets such as India, New Zealand, and Hong Kong well-positioned for strong 5G FWA growth.

The region’s shift toward digital services is also broadening FWA use cases. Smart home applications, SME connectivity, remote learning, and telemedicine are driving uptake across both residential and business segments. Operators like Optus in Australia and NTT Docomo in Japan are using FWA to deliver high-capacity broadband to homes and small enterprises. Pradeepthi adds that operators offering flexible data plans, advanced plug-and-play CPE, and value-added services will be best placed to tap into new revenue streams. With demand for fast and dependable connectivity continuing to rise, FWA is solidifying its role as a competitive and scalable broadband alternative across the APAC region.
