TELUS to enhance network investment for 2016

TELUS in Toronto
Telecom network operator TELUS today said it’s enhancing its capital expenditure (Capex) for 2016 to $2.85 billion against the previous estimate of $2.65 billion.

The increase in capital investments reflects TELUS’ focus on investing in broadband infrastructure to support the demand for data services and higher network speeds, including connecting more homes and businesses to its fiber optic network in Canada.

TELUS also intends to make investment in its wireless network for LTE expansion and upgrades as well as in fiber to support its wireless small cell strategy in preparation for a more efficient and timely evolution to 5G mobile.

Capital expenditures of TELUS increased by $43 million to $535 million due to ongoing investments in TELUS’ fibre-optic network to support its small-cell technology strategy to improve coverage and prepare for a more efficient and timely evolution to 5G.

The telecom company invested $1.4 billion in capital expenditures primarily in communities across Canada in the first six months of 2016 and more than $30 billion since 2000.

TELUS Corporation’s operating revenue grew 1.5 percent to $3.1 billion in the second quarter of 2016 — driven by continued data revenue and subscriber additions in both wireless and wireline operations.
