Zhone Technologies unveils new zNID optical network terminals in European telecom markets

By Telecom Lead Team: Zhone Technologies will introduce
its new zNID 24xx Gigabit Ethernet (GE) Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) to the
European market.

The new Active Ethernet indoor ONTs, part of the zNID
24xx series indoor ONTs, provide a cost-efficient, high performance solution
for delivering high bandwidth services.

Zhone zNID Active Ethernet indoor ONT portfolio is
designed to meet needs of the bandwidth intensive services being deployed to
homes and businesses.

Zhone said that integrating and leveraging the Zhone
Management System (ZMS) and Zhone EZ Touch Provisioning System, the indoor ONTs
are ideal for service providers and their customers’ needs.

Zhone’s Zhone FiberHome, with the MXP-160/260 and
MXP-180/280 1U Single Line Multi-Service (SLMS) platforms, will provide
advanced multi-play connectivity to global voice, data, and video service
providers.

“Increased bandwidth demand remains a serious issue
in Europe, especially as service providers continue to introduce more advanced
triple- and quad-play services and identify new cost-effective ways to provide
FTTx connectivity and improve mobile backhaul capabilities,” said Brian
Caskey, chief marketing officer of Zhone.

The introduction of Zhone’s latest ONT portfolio to the
European market comes at the ideal time. According to the Broadband Forum by
Point Topic, IPTV in Europe is approaching 55 million subscribers, holding the
top regional position over Asia.

Zhone’s MXK platform and the applications in the Zhone
FiberHome and Zhone FiberCell portfolios are serving as a core enabler of
operators’ broadband expansion efforts for residential and wireless backhaul
markets.

It is designed to support the needs of operators’
migration from ADSL residential and narrowband wireless to broadband over fiber
and wireless broadband across global regions. Zhone recently announced the
deployment of more than 3,000 MXK multi-service access node (MSAN) platforms
worldwide.
