Telecom network maker Ericsson and Motorola Solutions and Telstra will trial the integration of mobile broadband push-to-talk communications in Australia.
The strategy is to develop push-to-talk communications for the public safety market by integrating LTE broadband networks.
LTE-based public safety technology will complement the mission-critical capabilities provided by the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) networks.
The trial brings together Ericsson’s network, Motorola Solutions’ experience in providing mission-critical communications for public safety, and Telstra’s network resources and expertise in defining and deploying next-generation communications standards and capabilities.
Mike Wright, Telstra Networks Group Managing Director said next-generation push to talk will provide a platform to deliver greater multi-media communications to front line responders in the near future.
Public safety agencies will benefit from providing access to next-generation push-to-talk and greater coverage as LTE networks are extended across Australia. Telstra plans to reach coverage across 99 per cent of Australia via its LTE networks by the end of June 2017.
The interoperability of next-generation push-to-talk with TETRA and P25 systems will provide more capacity in times of emergency.
