Alcatel-Lucent transforms South Korea’s LG Uplus network offering FP3 400G processor

Telecom Lead Asia: Alcatel-Lucent on Tuesday said it transformed the network of South Korea’s LG Uplus.

The transformation project enabled the Korean mobile service provider to increase broadband speeds and capacity in response to exploding demand for superfast Internet access, IPTV services, voice-over-IP and other high-bandwidth services in their homes.

To address the rapid growth of broadband services, LG Uplus has deployed Alcatel-Lucent’s Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) technology in major cities in Korea.

Alcatel-Lucent said this is the first deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s service routers in Korea using its FP3 – a 400G processor – and lays the foundation for future speeds of up to 400 gigabit-per-second and even greater capacity.

Rajeev Singh-Molares, president of Alcatel-Lucent Asia Pacific region, said: “This project showcases our ability to deliver a market-leading solution that will help this customer rapidly expand its network according to residential and business users’ changing data demands for years to come, while enabling the operator to lower its operational costs and energy consumption.”

Alcatel-Lucent has provided LG Uplus with its 7750 Service Router portfolio to deliver more bandwidth and services to more subscribers, more efficiently. LG Uplus is able to streamline its current network operations to deliver substantial savings in both capital and operational expenses.

More than 475 carriers with presence in over 110 countries have adopted Alcatel-Lucent Service Router portfolio.

Alcatel-Lucent claims that it holds the #2 position in the IP Edge Routing market segment worldwide.
