Sunrise doubles speed of broadband network across Switzerland

Telecom operator Sunrise has more than doubled the speed of its hybrid fibre-coaxial cable network, ensuring better experience to 80 percent of households who are connected to the broadband, across Switzerland.

Salt covers 46 percent of the population offering all broadband speeds.

Over the last two years, the Sunrise landline-data volume has increased by about 30 percent. Growth in Sunrise landline-data volume was twice as high in 2023 compared to 2022. 92 percent of the population uses the Internet daily or almost daily. An individual uses the Internet for 5.6 hours every day.

Sunrise offers a mix of technologies (copper, HFC, fibre optics, 5G) through its own networks and through access to partner networks.

Sunrise is providing broadband to over 95 percent of Swiss households with landline broadband services of 1 Gbit/s (including 5G fixed wireless access).

By increasing Internet speeds from 1 Gbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s on the HFC network for around 80 percent of Swiss households, Sunrise is expanding its competitive edge.

Existing customers connected to the HFC network, who are currently limited to 1 Gbit/s, will enjoy a significantly improved Internet experience without having to pay more for their subscription. They will receive a Smart Wi-Fi pod free of charge if required, including support from a specialist team of Wi-Fi experts.
