ON Semiconductor revenue for Q2 FY12 plunges at $744.8 million

Telecom Lead America: ON Semiconductor has posted
revenues of $744.8 million for the second quarter of 2012, down from $905.8
million for the same quarter a year earlier.

 

The company reported net income of $6.9 million for the
second quarter of 2012, down from $34.3 million for a year earlier period. The
net income was impacted by $58.1 million of special items which include
restructuring charges and other items.

 

The company’s operating expenses stood at $231.4 million
for Q2 FY12, up from $209.2 million for the same quarter a year ago.

 

The company said that average selling prices for ON
Semiconductor in the second quarter of 2012 were down approximately one percent
when compared to the first quarter of 2012.

 

Total gross margin in the second quarter was 34.7
percent. Adjusted EBITDA for the second quarter of 2012 was $128.9 million,
against $120.1 million for the first quarter of 2012.

 

The company’s president and CEO, Keith Jackson said that
On Semiconductor met the lower end of revenue guidance for the second quarter
of 2012. However, the company experienced a slowdown in activity as we
progressed through the month of June.

 

With global economic uncertainties as well as
conservative order trends from customers through July, the company anticipates
the third quarter revenues to be approximately in-line with the second quarter
of 2012.

 

The company predicts that total ON Semiconductor revenues
will be approximately $725 to $765 million in the third quarter of 2012.

 

Furthermore, the company anticipates that average selling
prices for the third quarter of 2012 will be down approximately one to two
percent when compared to the second quarter of 2012.

 

ON Semiconductor launches new chip for in-vehicle networking

 

Recently, ON Semiconductor launched a bus transceiver IC
called the NCV7381 single-channel device, which is compliant with the FlexRay
communications protocol.

 

The device is capable of data transfer speeds up to 10
megabits per second (Mbits/s).
