Jio posts 13% rise in revenue as 5G drives 31% of data

Jio Platforms, a leading telecom operator in India, has announced significant achievements for the April-June quarter of 2024.

Jio Platforms, which is providing mobile connectivity services to 489.7 million, has reported revenue of Rs 29,449 crore, an increase of 12.8 percent, in April-June 2024.

The main highlight of Reliance Jio earnings were the additions of 8 million customers.

Jio is the largest operator globally in terms of data traffic. 5G accounts for 31 percent of Jio’s wireless data traffic. Jio has become the fastest operator to cross 1.1 million connections on Fixed Wireless with strong demand for JioAirFiber. JioAirFiber is the #1 brand in home broadband business. JioAirFiber has grabbed >60 percent share of industry net additions.

Jio, which does not reveal its network Capex, said network slicing on Standalone 5G network and Jio’s point-to-multipoint deployment is transforming fixed broadband
infrastructure in India.

Jio is displacing competition from large multi-year government deals. Jio is expanding enterprise share beyond connectivity in BFSI, with wins across CPaaS, Chatbots, Cloud.

Reliance Jio is building leadership in IoT as a single point provider of Device, Connectivity & Platform. Jio is leveraging BFSI tie-ups to offer financing options for devices and connectivity to SMBs.

Jio has won several SMB deals in education, manufacturing and hospitality.

Recently, Jio has acquired right to use additional spectrum in 1800MHz band in
Bihar and West Bengal for ~Rs 974 crore.

Jio has spectrum footprint across bands stands at 26,801 MHz (uplink + downlink). Jio is the only operator in India to have access in low, mid and high-band (700 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26GHz) spectrum for 5G which gives it unique advantage on 5G.

Key financial and operational highlights include:

EBITDA Growth: Jio Platforms reported an EBITDA of ₹14,638 crore, marking an 11.6 percent year-over-year increase.

Net Profit Increase: The company’s net profit rose by 11.7 percent year-over-year, reaching ₹5,698 crore for the quarter.

Subscriber Additions: Jio led the industry with 8.0 million net subscriber additions, bringing the total subscriber base to 489.7 million.

JioAirFiber Expansion: The JioAirFiber service achieved its highest-ever quarterly home connects, with over 1.1 million net additions.

ARPU: The average revenue per user (ARPU) was ₹181.7. This was influenced by a better subscriber mix, although it was partially offset by the increasing mix of promotional 5G traffic offered on an unlimited basis at no extra charge.

Data and Voice Traffic: Customer engagement remained robust, with total data traffic increasing by 32.8 percent year-over-year to 44.1 billion GB. Voice traffic grew by 6.0 percent to 1.42 trillion minutes.

5G Subscriber Base: Jio is the largest 5G operator outside China, with approximately 130 million 5G subscribers. This segment accounts for over 31 percent of Jio’s wireless data traffic, all carried on Jio’s own 5G+4G combo core network.

Jio Platforms continues to strengthen its position in the telecom industry with solid financial performance and a growing subscriber base, driven by strategic initiatives and enhanced service offerings.

Reliance Jio has increased its charges — 13-25 percent — for telecom customers from July 3 with the aim of enhancing its revenue.
