Telia revenue grows 2.3% in Q2 as 5G yet to attract customers

Telecom operator Telia has revealed its main achievements in the second-quarter of 2024 and targets for the current year.

Telia has generated revenue of SEK 22,380 million, achieving 2.3 percent increase, in Q2 2024.

Telia’s service revenue rose 3.3 percent to SEK 19,403 million.

Adjusted EBITDA grew 6.4 percent to SEK 7,856 million and adjusted EBITDA margin increased to 35.1 percent from 33.8 percent. Telia’s operating income increased to SEK 2,942 million from SEK 2,095 million.

Capex, excluding right-of-use assets, fell to SEK 3,535 million from SEK 3,690 million. Capex, excluding fees for licenses, spectrum and right-of-use assets, dropped to SEK 3,536 million from SEK 3,672 million. Cash Capex decreased to SEK 3,817 million from SEK 3,860 million.

Telia Sweden has achieved the milestone of 90 percent 5G population coverage. Telia Sweden’s mobile postpaid subscriptions excluding M2M services increased by ~4,000 driven by the consumer segment. Telia Sweden’s TV subscriptions increased by ~12,000 and fixed broadband subscriptions increased by ~7,000.

Telia Sweden revenue decreased 1.0 percent despite a 2.5 percent increase in service revenue. Fixed service revenue increased 4.5 percent due to TV revenue growth of 24.3 percent due to both subscriber base and ARPU expansion, and revenue growth of 3.4 percent for broadband.

Telia Sweden’s Capex excluding fees for licenses, spectrum and right-of-use assets, rose 11.3 percent to SEK 1,205 million from SEK 1,083 million.

Telia Finland and Nokia tested the 6 GHz frequency band of the mobile network. The results show that with these higher frequencies, comprehensive coverage can be achieved with the base station density of the 5G 3.5 GHz network.

Telia Finland’s mobile postpaid subscriptions excluding M2M services dropped by ~16,000 driven by the consumer segment. TV subscriptions decreased by ~17,000 and fixed broadband subscriptions increased by ~1,000.

Telia Finland’s revenue fell 2.5 percent as service revenue remained rather unchanged and sales of both mobile and fixed equipment declined. Service revenue decreased 0.2 percent thanks to mobile service revenue growth of 3.1 percent, driven by an improved ARPU in the consumer segment.

Fixed service revenue declined by 4.7 percent despite growth of 7 percent for both TV and broadband.

Telia Finland’s Capex, excluding fees for licenses, spectrum and right-of-use assets, grew 10 percent to SEK 459 million from SEK 417 million.

Telia Norway’s mobile postpaid subscriptions excluding M2M services grew by ~5,000. TV subscriptions declined by ~3,000 and fixed broadband subscriptions decreased by ~10,000. Telia Norway’s revenue fell 0.7 percent due to 1 percent growth in service revenue. Fixed service revenue declined 3.1 percent. Telia Norway’s Capex decreased 21.5 percent to SEK 590 million from SEK 751 million.

Telia Lithuania’s mobile postpaid subscriptions excluding M2M services rose by ~14,000 in the quarter. TV subscriptions remained unchanged and fixed broadband subscriptions decreased by ~2,000 in the quarter.

Telia Lithuania’s revenue rose 5.1 percent driven by 4.9 percent growth in service revenue. Mobile service revenue increased 10.1 percent, following growth in subscriptions as well as ARPU. Fixed service revenue grew 0.9 percent driven by revenue from broadband due to ARPU.

Telia Lithuania’s Capex decreased 22.4 percent to SEK 122 million from SEK 157 billion.

Telia Estonia’s mobile postpaid subscriptions excluding M2M services rose by ~8,000 in the quarter. TV subscriptions decreased by ~1,000 and fixed broadband subscriptions increased by ~1,000. Telia Estonia’s revenue fell 0.6 percent despite 1.8 percent increase in service revenue due to subscriber base and ARPU expansion. Fixed service revenue increased by 1.7 percent driven by business solutions, broadband and TV.

Telia Estonia’s Capex increased 24.5 percent to SEK 155 million from SEK 124 billion. Telia Estonia’s 5G population coverage increased to above 80 percent, leading the market.

Telia is targeting total Capex of SEK 14 billion in 2024. Telia did not reveal its 5G growth plans.
