Globe Telecom lowers Capex despite 5G and fiber push

Globe Telecom is aiming to make an investment of P89 billion for its network expansion in 2022 for setting up new cell site, upgrading existing sites to 4G / LTE, accelerating Capex in 5G network and the fiber.

“We invested ₱92.8 billion in Capex for 2021 and have earmarked ₱89 billion for 2022, to give Filipinos better, more meaningful digital experiences,” Ernest L Cu, President and CEO of Globe Telecom, said. “Our strategy to focus on innovation will serve customers better and address their needs and concerns through various digital platforms, backed by our strong network.”

Globe Telecom’s ₱92.8 billion Capex for 2021 represented 61 percent of gross service revenues and 124 percent of EBITDA. About 86 percent of the Capex went to data-related requirements in order to serve the rising demands of Filipinos consumers.

Globe Telecom built 1,407 cell sites in 2021 including both 4G LTE and 5G, upgraded over 22,300 mobile sites, and installed over 2,000 5G outdoor sites and in building solutions (IBS) as of end-December of 2021.

Globe installed over 1.4 million FTTH lines, surpassing its revised target.
