Ericsson opens 5G design center in Austin, Texas

Ericsson Sinisa KrajnovicTelecom equipment maker Ericsson is recruiting resources for its 5G design center in Austin, Texas, to focus on microelectronics and accelerating the path to 5G commercialization.

The innovation strategy of Ericsson is to bring better and greener 5G products to Ericsson portfolio by 2019. Ericsson has ASIC design teams in Sweden and China. The new design center in the US will assist Ericsson in innovating 5G products for telecom operators.

Ericsson will be working with other Silicon-fab houses to develop its unique and dedicated ASICs. The 5G design center will be centrally located in Austin’s tech neighborhood, near other processor manufacturers.

Sinisa Krajnovic, head of Development Unit Networks, Ericsson, said the company is strengthening its radio design capability in one of the world’s 5G pioneer markets.
