NSN in LTE deal with VimpelCom

Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) will be powering VimpelCom’s LTE network in Russia.

As per the 4G deal, NSN will supply LTE radio access networks in the central region of Russia, Siberia, South and most of the Volga and Ural regions.

NSN did not share the size of the 4G contract.

Under the five-year agreement, NSN will deliver, install and integrate LTE radio access equipment. The company will also provide rollout services for the implementation and commissioning of 4G mobile broadband services.

As part of its strategy to win in mobile data, VimpelCom launched 4G LTE in Moscow in May 2013. ( VimpelCom Capex reaches $791 million in Q2 2013 )

The 4G deal with VimpelCom is NSN’s second significant mobile broadband deal in Russia recently.

Recently, NSN said it is the largest foreign telecom equipment vendor to bag TD-LTE deal from China Mobile, the largest telecom operator in the world. China Mobile will launch Apple iPhone on its 4G network from 17 January.

NSN on Thursday said it will deploy its Single RAN platform built around the Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station. In addition, NSN will provide its NetAct network management system to enable consolidated configuration, monitoring and optimization of VimpelCom’s network resources and services.

Professional services, including network planning, optimization and implementation to ensure rapid deployment of the LTE network are also part of the 4G deal.
