Huawei showcases versatile ONT and intelligent ODN at FTTH 2011

Huawei, a global information and communications
technology (ICT) solutions provider, showcased the new HG8240 Optical Network
Terminal (ONT) and Intelligent Optical Distribution Network (iODN) at Fiber To
The Home (FTTH) Conference and Expo 2011, in Orlando, Florida.

The versatile HG8240 ONT design allows a single ONT type
to be used for indoor, just-inside, and outdoor applications. It will simplify
network operation and reduce deployment costs. The HG8240 ONT – with 2 POTS and
4 Gigabit Ethernet ports – can be deployed indoor for desk or wall mounting
use.

The same ONT can also be placed in an outdoor enclosure
or just-inside enclosure depending upon the network application. This high
performance ONT is suitable for multiple applications which minimizes inventory
costs and improves service installation/provisioning efficiency.

The HG8240 utilizes a System-on-Chip designed to deliver
wire speed GigE performance and advanced power management function for green
operation.

Huawei’s iODN brings intelligence to the fiber management system while maintaining the
passive nature of the ODN network. The iODN uses eIDs to automatically identify
and manage fiber connections, intelligently determine fiber connection
operations, and accurately manage optical splitters.

“Delivering ultra-high speed broadband over fiber
access with dramatically improved cost points is the challenge we commit to
address,” said Reg Wilcox, vice president of Network Marketing for Huawei
Technologies USA.

“The new HG8240 Optical Network Terminal and
Intelligent Optical Distribution Network added to Huawei’s Single Fix Access
Network (SingleFAN) solution, give operators greater flexibility to simplify
and significantly improve the economics of their fiber access network,”
Wilcox added.

Recently, Huawei announced that it has been selected
by Telenor Global Services (TGS), a provider of global interconnection
services, as the sole partner for its Voice & IP network renovation across
10 countries.

Huawei will provide TGS with a comprehensive One Network
and IP Core solution and managed services for five years to countries
including, Norway, Singapore, Hong Kong (China), United Kingdom, Germany, the
Netherlands, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia.
