Infonetics in November 2014 said telecom operators are currently spending around $5.6 billion per quarter on LTE. It had forecast that the global macrocell 2G, 3G, and 4G mobile infrastructure market will reach $45.4 billion in 2014 against $43 billion in 2013. Investments initially earmarked for 2015 have shifted to 2014, reinforcing Infonetics’ prediction that the LTE market will peak in 2015.

In November 2014, Telstra Australia, Ericsson and Qualcomm achieved 450 Mbps downlink speed (Category 9) on LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) Carrier Aggregation solution by combining three 20 MHz LTE carriers. The demonstration utilized 60 MHz of spectrum, with three 20 MHz LTE carriers in Band 3 (1800 MHz), Band 7 (2600 MHz) and Band 28 (APT 700 MHz) respectively.

Tom Bennett, director of network services and devices at EE, said: “We’re showcasing incredibly high speeds here, but what we’re also showcasing is amazing capacity – the ability to provide a great internet connection to so many people all at the same time is vital.”

To achieve the 400Mbps speeds, EE aggregated 20MHz of 1800MHz spectrum with another 20MHz of 2.6GHz, and a third carrier of 15MHz of 2.6GHz.

“Huawei’s collaboration with EE and Qualcomm Technologies has allowed all three companies to showcase what is made possible through LTE-Advanced,” said Mohamed Madkour, vice president Marketing, Huawei Wireless Network Product Line.
