Ericsson powers Smile Communications’ 4G LTE network in Lagos, Nigeria

Ericsson today announced that Smile Communications has launched a 4G LTE network in West Africa in Lagos, Nigeria.

Ericsson supplied multi-standard RBS 6000 base stations and AIR Antennas, MINI-LINK microwave transmission, as well as the Evolved Packet Core for the LTE network.

Smile Communications has launched 4G LTE network on 800 MHz spectrum in Ibadan and Lagos, both in Nigeria. The telecom operator will add more locations across the country.

“We are starting in Lagos and will lay our footprints in other major cities across the country shortly,” said Tom Allen, chief operating officer of Smile Group.

Smile Communications and Ericsson will deploy over 1,100 LTE sites across the country. Ericsson is responsible for project management, system integration, interoperability testing, network design and implementation.
