Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel has launched its 4G service – on FD-LTE technology — in the Seychelles.
This is Airtel’s first commercial LTE network in Africa.
The LTE network on 800 MHz spectrum is expected to cover 10,000 LTE subscribers in the first phase of the launch.
Danny Fure, vice president of Government of Seychelles, said: “The deployment of the 4G mobile network across the Seychelles will enable an enhanced mobile experience and reliable services; and will facilitate new and exciting opportunities for businesses, the society and the people in the country.”
Christian de Faria, CEO of Airtel Africa said that the telecom operator has the widest 3G footprint with presence in 17 countries.
On Wednesday, telecom network vendor Ericsson announced that it is supporting Bharti Airtel for launching 4G network in Seychelles.
