Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revealed the break-up of revenue streams for Indian mobile service providers in a recent report.
Indian mobile operators make 17.2 percent revenue from rental, 47 percent from calls, 2.3 percent from SMS, 22.1 percent from data / Internet, 3.8 percent from VAS and 2.5 percent from others. Revenue from out-roamers is 5 percent.
In terms of Rupee, the monthly ARPU of Rs 126 for Indian mobile operators comprises Rs 22.88 from rental, Rs 62.59 from voice calls, Rs 3.04 from SMS, Rs 29.43 from data usage, Rs 5.07 from other VAS, Rs 3.36 from other areas, Rs 6.66 from out-roaming and inter-operator settlement charges receivable of Rs –6.98.
GSM operators
In India, the number of GSM subscribers was 996.63 million in June 2016, according to TRAI. Nearly 95.23 percent of India’s GSM subscribers are pre-paid customers.
Incoming MoU per subscriber per month was 194.60. Outgoing MoU per subscriber was 181.97 per month. Outgoing SMS was 19.52 per subscriber per month. Average revenue per user (ARPU) of GSM operator was Rs 126.05.
Post-paid ARPU in India
Indian GSM operators have posted an ARPU of Rs 495 from post-paid mobile subscribers and Rs 108 from pre-paid users.
In metros, the post-paid ARPU was 522, while pre-paid ARPU was Rs 109.
