Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRA) has recently revealed the top 20 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) based on the subscriber base in the June quarter of 2016.
Bharti Airtel holds the top position with 26.40 percent of market share of internet subscribers in India followed by Vodafone with 19.89 percent.
In wired internet segment, BSNL holds 62.96 percent market share with 13.07 million subscribers, followed by Bharti with 1.91 million subscribers. Total number of wired internet subscriber is 20.76 million in the June quarter of 2016.
In wireless internet segment, Bharti holds 27.48 percent market share with 90.61 million subscribers followed by Vodafone with 69.72 million internet subscribers.
Top five service areas in terms of internet subscriptions (wired + wireless) are Maharashtra (30.36 million), Tamil Nadu including Chennai (27.96 million), Andhra Pradesh (25.86 million), U.P. (E) (24 million) and Karnataka (22.56 million).
Number of Internet subscribers has increased from 342.65 million in March 2016 to 350.48 million in June 2016, registering a quarterly growth rate of 2.28 percent. Out of 350.48 million, wired Internet subscribers are 20.76 million and wireless Internet subscribers are 329.72 million.
Internet subscriber base of 350.48 million is comprised of broadband Internet subscribers of 162.06 million and narrowband Internet subscribers of 188.42 million.
TRAI said the broadband Internet subscriber base grew 8.22 percent to 162.06 million in June 2016. The narrowband Internet subscriber base declined 2.32 percent to 188.42 million.
There are 124 Service Providers providing wireline broadband service. Out of these SPs, 39 service providers have broadband subscriber base >10,000 and market share of 39 SPs is 99.17 percent of total subscriber base.
