HPE fails to take on Dell in server market in Q2 2018

The latest IDC report revealed the server market share of top suppliers such as Dell, HPE, IBM, Lenovo, Inspur, Cisco and Huawei in Q2 2018.

Dell with 18.8 percent revenue share, HPE with 16.6 percent, IBM with 7.3 percent, Lenovo with 6.9 percent, Inspur with 4.8 percent, Cisco with 4.8 percent and Huawei with 4.3 percent share are the top server vendors.

The ODM Direct group of vendors increased its collective revenue by 55.9 percent to $5.5 billion. Dell led the worldwide server market in terms of unit shipments, accounting for 19.5 percent of all units shipped.

HPE, which had 21.4 percent share in the global server market, has again failed to catch up with Dell. Dell increased its server market share to 18.8 percent from 17.7 percent. Dell has further lost its server market share to 16.6 percent from 21.4 percent.

Server market revenue increased 43.7 percent to $22.5 billion, while shipments rose 20.5 percent to 2.9 million units in Q2 2018, IDC said.

Dell Technologies, which posted revenue of $22.94 billion in Q2 2018, said Infrastructure Solutions Group revenue rose 24 percent to $9.2 billion. This was driven by 13 percent increase in storage revenue to $4.2 billion and 34 percent increase in servers and networking revenue to $5.1 billion.
