ZTE bags BSNL GSM project

Telecom Lead India: Chinese mobile equipment major
ZTE will support 10.15 million BSNL’s GSM lines across the country.

ZTE will be involved in planning, financing, engineering,
supply, installation and testing, commissioning and annual maintenance of the
GSM lines. The procurement of these lines for expansion of 2G and 3G services
will cover all BSNL telecom circles in Northern & Southern Zones.

We are excited to partner with BSNL to support their
ambitious growth plans in North and South India. We are confident that this association
will help BSNL to offer competitive mobile communications that can meet the
present and future telecommunication needs, and help ZTE boost its business in
the Indian sub-continent,” said Cui Liangjun, chief executive officer, ZTE
India.

ZTE, Huawei and Alcatel Lucent may bag 14.37 million line
contract from BSNL

Telecom equipment vendors – ZTE, Huawei and Alcatel
Lucent – are likely to win a major order from mobile operator BSNL for adding
14.37 million lines.

This will be a huge setback for both Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Network. Both
telecom equipment vendors are struggling in the Indian mobile market.

The expansion will be a huge relief for BSNL that posted gross revenue of Rs 4,166.73 crore
for the quarter ended 31, December 2011, down 11.19 percent against Rs 4,691.86
crore for the quarter ended 30, September 2011. For the quarter ended 31
December 2010, the Indian Government owned BSNL’s gross revenue stood at
Rs 4,294.59 crore.

The network expansion is very important for BSNL which is
struggling to add subscribers in India’s highly competitive telecom market.

BSNL offers 1% discount to people to clear dues

Recently, BSNL offered a discount of 1 percent
to its customers to clear dues. The service provider wants to restore over
50,000 landline connections that were earlier closed for nonpayment of bills.
These dues have piled up to Rs 7 crore in Pune district. The deadline for
clearance has been fixed as March 31. However, BSNL also said if the
people whose connections have been suspended fail to pay the bills by March 31,
the company will issue them notices and even file court cases.
