Uninor names Morten Karlsen Sorby as new CEO

Uninor, Telenor’s Indian telecom business, has named Morten Karlsen Sørby as its new chief executive officer.

“We will continue to build on the company’s competitive spirit and innovation skills to capture new ground, both in basic services and by providing affordable internet services to the masses,” said Morten Karlsen Sørby, CEO of Uninor.

Uninor serves more than 26 million customers in telecom circles; UP East, UP West, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra & Goa and Gujarat.

In 2013, Uninor reached cash flow break even, after four years of operation.

Uninor names Morten Karlsen Sorby  as new CEO

Morten Karlsen Sørby replaces Sigve Brekke who has served as interim CEO of Uninor since November last year. Sigve continues as earlier in his role as executive vice president and head of Telenor Group’s Asia Operations.

Morten joined Telenor in 1993 and has been a member of the Group’s executive management team since 2003.

He most recently served as the executive vice president in charge of corporate strategy and regulatory affairs in Telenor Group.

Morten was previously executive vice president and head of the Norwegian and Nordic mobile and fixed network operations of Telenor.
