The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has launched revamped versions of its TRAI DND and TRAI MySpeed mobile apps to strengthen spam reporting and help users evaluate real-time telecom network performance. The updated apps focus on multilingual access, simplified reporting and real-world testing features to improve consumer participation and data-driven regulation.

India’s telecom sector now serves more than 1.31 billion subscribers, including over 1 billion broadband users, making citizen participation critical for improving service quality and curbing unsolicited commercial communications.
Revamped TRAI DND app simplifies spam reporting
The upgraded TRAI DND app introduces a multilingual interface to expand accessibility across India’s diverse linguistic landscape and encourage more users to report spam calls and SMS.
Key features include:
Simplified home screen for faster spam reporting and complaint tracking
Complaint registration in fewer steps with reference ID tracking
“Know Your Sender” feature to identify registered headers and the 1600 number series
Improved DND preference management for customized blocking of promotional messages
Enhanced support for dual SIM devices
In 2025, the DND app played a major role in enforcement, with over 17 lakh spam complaints registered through the platform. The app integrates with telecom service providers via APIs to ensure complaints are processed within regulatory timelines.
TRAI is encouraging consumers to actively use the DND app, highlighting that structured reporting strengthens nationwide efforts to curb spam.
TRAI MySpeed app adds real-world network testing
The updated TRAI MySpeed app enables users to evaluate telecom network performance under real usage conditions and provide feedback to regulators.
In addition to measuring download and upload speeds, the app now tests:
Latency
Jitter
Packet loss
New testing capabilities include:
Video streaming and web browsing simulations
Continuous and scheduled testing for drive tests across locations and time periods
Location-based historical performance data using interactive geospatial maps
Data collected from consumer tests is anonymized and analyzed by TRAI to support regulatory oversight and improve network reliability.
Empowering consumers through data and transparency
According to Anil Kumar Lahoti, the revamped apps represent a major step toward empowering telecom consumers with tools to report issues easily and assess service provider performance. The TRAI DND and MySpeed apps are being rolled out for download on Android and iOS platforms. The regulator reiterated its commitment to building a transparent, accountable and consumer-driven telecom ecosystem where citizens play a central role in improving service quality and reducing spam communications.
