TelecomLead Awards 2017: TelecomLead CTO- Shyam Mardikar, Airtel

 Shyam MardikarThe jury of TelecomLead Awards 2017 has decided to present TelecomLead CTO award to Shyam Mardikar, CTO — Mobile Network at Airtel for his contribution to Bharti Airtel’s success and Indian telecom industry in the last 12 months.

Bharti Airtel continued its network transformation program last year by adding 180,000 mobile sites in the past 2 years. Airtel’s multi-billion investment in data networks has enabled the company to grow data customers in recent quarters despite tough competition.

Airtel has made investment in Self Optimization Network (SON) and Geo-analytical tools real time across India, customer experience based optimization of its mobile broadband network. Airtel could reduce drop calls and network blocking, and increase data throughputs through these platforms as they have enabled automatic optimization of multi-layered networks.

Airtel started dual carrier implementation achieving a speed of 42 Mbps in select circles. Airtel completed FD+TD Carrier aggregation in 450 towns achieving 135 Mbps speed. Airtel tested LAA Carrier aggregation, achieving a speed of more than 250 Mbps enabling telecoms to manage the spectrum efficiently and offer better network experience to customers.

In addition to Shyam Mardikar of Airtel, TelecomLead CTO award will be given to Mathew Oommen, president of Network at Reliance Jio.

TelecomLead Awards Jury details

Satya N Gupta, Jury Chairman and Jury Members including Ravindra Kr Mishra, Rakesh Mehrotra, Girish Trivedi and Baburajan Kizhakedath decided the winners of the TelecomLead Awards 2017 through two rounds of jury meeting in June / July 2017.
