Tata Communications to purchase capacity in Seaborn Networks’ cable system

Telecom major Tata Communications will purchase significant capacity in Seaborn Networks’ cable system between Brazil and the U.S.

The Mumbai, India-based company did not share specific investment details.

The investment is part of Tata Communications’ strategy to extend its TGN-network. The Seabras-1 cable will be landing in Tata Communications’ Wall cable landing station in the U.S.

Seaborn Networks is the developer and operator of the first express submarine cable between the United States and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Seaborn Networks plans for the Seabras-1 system to be ready for service in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Genius Wong, senior vice president, Global Network Services, Tata Communications, said: “Latin America is a key emerging region and growing market on the world stage and our investment in Seabras-1 is part of our plan to enhance our offerings into that region.”

More than 24 percent of the world’s Internet routes travel over Tata Communications subsea fiber cable network.
