Singtel Group has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Union of Telecoms Employees of Singapore (UTES) under its Company Training Committee (CTC), reinforcing its commitment to workforce transformation and future-ready skills development. The partnership places artificial intelligence (AI) at the center of Singtel’s employee training initiatives, ensuring the workforce is well-equipped to thrive in the digital economy.

The signing took place at the launch of Singtel’s annual BIG Learning Fiesta, a month-long program featuring workshops and talks designed to enhance professional and personal growth for all employees.
Building on Past Investments in Workforce Transformation
The newMOU builds on Singtel’s previous initiatives, including S$45 million investment in 2019 through its ACT framework (Accelerate, Co-create, Transform) to deepen employees’ digital skills. In 2022, Singtel boosted its investment further with S$20 million annually to intensify training, and launched Singtel 8George, a dedicated learning academy for employees to develop relevant skills amid rapid technological change.
The new agreement focuses on:
Accelerating upskilling in AI, emerging technologies, sustainability, and power skills.
Empowering employees to co-create personalized learning pathways through a skills-first approach.
Transforming roles to ensure the workforce remains competitive and adaptable.
Scaling AI Adoption Across the Workforce
To date, 13,000 employees (95 percent of Singtel’s Singapore workforce) have completed foundational AI training in generative AI, data analytics, and responsible AI use. Singtel aims to ensure every employee in Singapore is AI-trained, with 3,000 advancing as AI practitioners and 300 as AI specialists.
This goal aligns with Singapore’s updated National AI Strategy, which targets training 15,000 AI practitioners to accelerate AI development and innovation nationwide.
Singtel Group CEO Yuen Kuan Moon said: “AI is transforming the way we live and work, and even redefining what jobs will look like in the future. That’s why we’re moving just as fast to prepare our people for this change. By learning how to make the most of AI, our people will be able to seize new opportunities, make smarter decisions, and drive sustainable growth for the business and for themselves.”
Creating AI-Driven Career Pathways
Singtel’s AI strategy is structured around three roles: adopter, builder-provider, and enabler of AI. This will open new AI-related career paths, particularly in digital infrastructure and data centers through its subsidiary Nxera, which recently hosted its first Sustainable AI Data Centre Career Day in collaboration with industry partners.
