Mobinil to invest in Microwave backhaul for LTE

Mobinil Egypt
Mobinil, a part of the Orange Group, will be making investment in deploying Ericsson’s microwave link with 5Gbps capacity to improve readiness for LTE adoption.

The E-band spectrum is instrumental in supporting microwave to meet the capacity increase for backhaul as well as fronthaul.

Ericsson in a statement said Microwave backhaul is able to handle 100 percent of all radio access sites’ capacity needs. E-band spectrum will represent up to 20 percent of new deployments in 2020, with traditional bands still accounting for 70 percent.

Ericsson launched a live E-band link with 5Gbps capacity on Mobinil’s network in January, 2016.

Hisham Sibilini, CTIO of Mobinil, said: “Launching this global first technology is an anticipatory move in light of our expanding customer base and its long-term sustainability.”

Meanwhile, Ericsson and STC, Saudi Arabia, signed an operations support system/business support system (OSS/BSS) deal that provides access to the latest Ericsson software innovations, features and services.

Nasser Sulaiman Al Nasser, senior vice president of Technology and Operations, STC, said: “We will be able to monetize the unique and dynamic capabilities of the Ericsson OSS/BSS installed base with seamless access to new product releases, features and enhancements.”
