Globe Telecom reports 70 percent growth in postpaid subscriber base

Telecom Lead Asia: Globe Telecom, mobile service provider in the Philippines, has reported 70 percent growth in postpaid subscriber base within the last two years.

Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO

Globe Telecom said the growth is mainly driven by the country’s first-ever fully-customizable and personalized postpaid plans that empowered subscribers to choose the best possible mix of call, text, and browsing services that they need.

“The phenomenal success of Globe My Super Plan even prompted competing brands to launch their own versions years later,” said Martha Sazon, head of Globe Postpaid.

In the last twelve months, Globe Postpaid has already added close to 348,000 new subscribers, bringing total subscriber count to 1.6 million, a 28 percent increase.

Postpaid service revenues for the first half of 2012 have also increased by 21 percent year-on-year, now accounting for 33 percent of total mobile revenues, up from 29 percent in the 1st half of 2011.

“Globe My Super Plan truly revolutionized and redefined postpaid. It was a game-changing offer that created a huge following among postpaid users today because of the true freedom it gave them, making Globe the undisputable leader in mobile postpaid in both subscriber and revenue shares,” Sazon added.

In the second quarter of 2012, Globe posted gross mobile subscriber acquisitions of over 6.1 million with the bulk coming from the prepaid segment. On a year-to-date basis, gross mobile subscriber acquisitions were likewise robust with over 12.2 million, up 7 percent from last year’s level driven by the strong take-up for postpaid plans and aggressive acquisition in the prepaid brands.

“Globe remains to be a strong challenger brand as evidenced in our consistent growth for several quarters now, and we’re happy to achieve this in the midst of a more heated telco war, to the point of resulting to negative publicity to discredit us,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.
