Ericsson and Telstra Achieve Milestone in Delivering 5G Network Slicing Services

Ericsson and Telstra have announced a significant milestone in their partnership aimed at delivering 5G network slicing services for Australian enterprises.
Telstra broadbandLeveraging the capabilities of the new Ericsson Dynamic Network Slicing solution, the partners have successfully completed the initial phase of their collaboration, paving the way for the deployment of slice-based use cases on Telstra’s leading 5G network.

The completed phase includes the establishment of essential wireless capabilities for the project. Key features of this phase include the orchestration of Telstra’s Radio Access Network (RAN) Rate Controlled Scheduling (RCS), enabling network slices to efficiently utilize radio resources, and the integration of Ericsson’s Common Topology Service and RAN management layer via the Ericsson Discovery and Reconciliation Framework to automate the discovery of Telstra’s 5G RAN topology.

In 2024, Ericsson and Telstra will be focusing on the development and deployment of advanced, open architecture-supported features. This phase involves the creation of a network abstraction layer to facilitate open integration with Telstra’s IT system, utilizing a Network as a Service reusable model for service order management, site survey, network slice conditioning, antenna installation, and network assurance use cases.

Ericsson Dynamic Network Slicing serves as a solution to operationalize network slicing, enabling Telstra to innovate and deliver tailored service experiences quickly and efficiently. Embracing automation as a core feature, the solution reduces complexity and enhances operational efficiency, ultimately ensuring superior service experiences, operational excellence, and assured revenue with new business models.

Emilio Romeo, Head of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand, expressed pride in the partnership with Telstra and emphasized the importance of automation in simplifying operations and enhancing service delivery.

Shailin Sehgal, Telstra Executive Network Applications and Cloud, highlighted the transformative potential of 5G network slicing in delivering premium, dependable, and differentiated service experiences tailored to specific customer use cases.

Ericsson Service Orchestration and Assurance, along with the Ericsson Dynamic Network Slicing solution and associated services, are now available to new and existing customers worldwide seeking to deliver more differentiated connectivity on open programmable networks.
