DoT seeks comments on Right of Way policy

DoT Secretary JS Deepak
Department of Telecommunications (DoT) Secretary JS Deepak is seeking comments to frame Right of Way (RoW) policy.

While sharing a draft policy document on RoW, JS Deepak on 16 March 2016 shared a letter with chief secretaries of all state governments and UTs seeking comments before finalizing the RoW guidelines. Indian telecom stakeholders can share their comments by 16 April 2016.

In the letter, JS Deepak emphasized the importance of smooth approval for right of ways for avoiding digital divide in India.

Lack of proper RoW policies, delay in giving RoW permission and high rates for RoW are delaying the deployment of optic fiber and telecom towers across the country.

DoT Secretary says India needs to formulate Indian Telegraph Right of Way Rules, 2016 under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.
