COAI aims to expand with new logo

COAI director general Rajan Mathews on Friday said the GSM mobile operator association will expand by adding companies from Internet search engines, OTT players, messaging companies, etc. in India.

The telecom industry body already has several members from mobile handset makers, mobile equipment vendors, chip companies and IT players.

The new logo and brand identity is part of the convergence happening in the Indian telecom industry.

During their speeches at the COAI event in Delhi, both COAI chairman Himanshu Kapania (Idea Cellular MD) and vice chairman Marten Pieters (Vodafone India MD) have stressed on the need for additional spectrum to run mobile networks efficiently. Indian telecom operators will face another round of spectrum auction in 2014.

COAI new logo

Telecom minister Kapil Sibal, who was expected to unveil the new logo, did not attend the function in Delhi.

The current logo is around 18 years old.

Rajan says the new logo adds dimension and motion to the previous logo. Together the cells represent the industry and its components, the voice of the industry and the inclusion of all players big and small in the emerging converging eco-system.

The graphic as a speech bubble represents leadership through social and economic inclusion. As a dream bubble it represents the future of India as an information society and thought-leader. As a cloud it represents technological ubiquity and innovation, and virtual technology – the future. Primary colours of the logo are Blue, representing a dependable, articulate communicator and Black representing firmness, authority, power and integrity, attributing COAI the leadership role.
