CES 2013: T-Mobile USA’s 4G Connect program

Telecom Lead America: T-Mobile USA’s 4G Connect is designed to make 4G connectivity a standard, integrated and free feature on select notebooks, tablets and Ultrabooks.

4G Connect enables consumers who purchase these devices to access the Internet out-of-the box, through a high-speed connection via T-Mobile’s 4G network — all with no extra equipment, annual contracts or commitments.

John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile USA, said: “The revolutionary 4G Connect program is an innovative, industry-first experience that makes it easier than ever for customers to get that data access solution right out-of-the-box at no extra cost, and in retail environments where they already shop for these devices: national retail stores and online.”

The first devices supporting 4G Connect include select Windows 8 notebooks and Ultrabooks from Dell and HP, including the HP Pavilion dm1 and Dell Inspiron 14z Ultrabook.

Device pricing varies; all-in costs for a device with the free connectivity begin at less than $500.

“Qualcomm is pleased to be working with T-Mobile and supporting its innovative 4G Connect program to ensure that consumers using mobile devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and Qualcomm Gobi modems have access to T-Mobile’s 4G network virtually wherever they are,” said Luis Pineda, senior vice president of product management, Qualcomm.

T-Mobile will continue to grow the program, working with additional OEMs and retail outlets to provide 4G Connect on a broader range of devices to consumers in 2013.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile USA announced that its Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan will be available with no annual contract starting from January 9. T-Mobile is the only U.S. carrier to offer an unlimited, nationwide, 4G data plan on a fast, dependable, nationwide, 4G network, giving customers the ultimate worry-free experience with no data caps, overages or bill shock.

In total, T-Mobile customers stream 32 million songs and visit Facebook 1.8 billion times per day. T-Mobile’s Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan helps these customers power a variety of 4G experiences — from on-the-go gaming to streaming music and video — all without limits on its 4G network.

Beginning Jan. 9, T-Mobile’s Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan will be available with no annual contract for $70 per month online atwww.t-mobile.com, at T-Mobile retail stores or through select dealers and national retail stores.

To kick off the Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan with no annual contract, T-Mobile will have a new offer on one of its latest smartphones. Starting Jan. 9, the LG Optimus L9 will be available for $199.99 with no annual contract.
