Telecom Lead America: AT&T
has posted operating revenue of $31.57 billion for Q2 FY12, up
0.3 percent, as compared to $31.47 for the year-earlier quarter.
Wireless segment totaled for $14.7 billion revenue, up 4.3
percent, as compared to $14.1 for the Q2 FY11.
For the wireless segment, the company posted total revenue
of $16.3 billion in Q2 FY12, against $15.6 billion a year earlier. Wireless
segment totaled for $14.7 billion revenue, up 4.3 percent, as compared to $14.1
for the Q2 FY11. Wireless equipment segment fetched $1.5 billion in the
quarter.
The company posted $14.9 billion revenue for the wireline
segment, down 0.8 percent versus the year-earlier quarter and down
slightly sequentially.
Data segment fetched $7.9 billion revenue in Q2 FY12, as
compared to $7.3 billion for the year-earlier quarter. The company’s wireline
voice segment plunged to $5.6 billion in the quarter, against $6.3 billion for
Q1 FY11.
Total business revenues stood at $9.1 billion, down
1.5 percent against the year-earlier quarter. Business service revenues
declined 1.4 percent year over year, compared to a year-over-year decline
of 3.9 percent in the year-ago quarter.
AT&T’s revenues from residential customers (U-verse)
totaled $5.5 billion, an increase of 1.7 percent versus the second
quarter a year ago.
Consolidated operating expenses were $24.8 billion for
Q2 FY1, down 2.3 percent year over year, versus $25.3 billion.
AT&T’s operating income was $6.8 billion for Q2 FY12, up from
$6.2 billion for the year-earlier quarter.
The company’s operating revenue for the consumer market
stood at $5.4 billion and AT&T business solution segment revenue totaled at
$9.1 billion in Q1 FY12.
Second-quarter 2012 net income attributable to AT&T
totaled $3.9 billion, or $0.66 per diluted share, up from
$3.6 billion, or $0.60 per diluted share, in the year-earlier quarter.
AT&T posted a net increase in total wireless subscribers
of 1.3 million in Q2 to reach 105.2 million in service.
During the quarter, AT&T sold 5.1 million
smartphones, representing 77 percent of postpaid device sales.
At the end of the quarter, 61.9 percent, or
43.1 million, of AT&T’s postpaid subscribers had smartphones, up from
49.9 percent, or 34.1 million, a year earlier.

with solid gains in smartphones and tablets, plus our wireless margins have
never been better. And most impressive, with this growth, we also achieved our
best-ever postpaid wireless churn, which points to the premier experience
customers receive on our network. All of these things add to our confidence and
