Airtel leads mobile consumer complaints received by TRAI in 2011-12

Telecom Lead India: Mobile operator Bharti Airtel is
leading the consumer complaints received by TRAI in 2011-12.

TRAI has received 1,165 service-related complaints
against Bharti Airtel, followed by 654 for Vodafone and 647 against Reliance
Communications.

TRAI has received 4,133 service-related complaints
against telecom operators in 2011-12.

“The number of service related complaints received in Trai during 2011-12
is 4,133. Of these, 1,165 complaints were against Bharti Airtel, followed by
654 for Vodafone and 647 against Reliance,” said Minister of State for
Communications and IT Milind Deora.

There were 466 and 165 complaints, respectively, against state-run BSNL and
MTNL. Complaints against Tata Teleservices and Idea Cellular were 438 and 326,
respectively.

Deora said for basic telephone service (wireline), non-compliance with the
Quality of Service (QoS) benchmarks included fault repair, metering and billing
and response time to the consumer for assistance.

In case of mobile telephone service, non-compliance included call drops,
network congestion and operator response within 60 seconds.

As per the licence conditions, telecom operators are responsible for
maintaining the performance and the QoS.

“To meet the requirement of QoS standards, licensee has to make its own
arrangements for all infrastructure involved in providing the service which
includes the enhancement of the capacity of mobile towers,” Deora added.
