Telecom Lead America: ZTE has bagged a 2G/3G wireless
network project from mobile operator Viettel in Peru.
During the first phase of the project, ZTE will build
more than 2000 base-stations.
The Chinese telecom equipment maker will provide its
Uni-RAN solution to Viettel. This solution includes a series of products based
on SDR technology, which enables operators to deploy their networks in a more
efficient way.
ZTE claims that SDR-built networks can combine multiple
modes and evolve to next generation networks seamlessly.
ZTE will also provide operation management services such
as its radio network optimization network tool to Viettel. The completed
network will cover all of Peru.
In 2009, ZTE became Viettel’s first 3G networking
equipment supplier in Vietnam. We are excited to help Viettel enter the South
American market for the first time and we are confident that this new contract
will help it grow further in the region,” said Pu Yingchun, ZTE GSM/UMTS
Product Lines General Manager.
ZTE’s SDR technology enabled the company to win contracts
from multinational operators, including: France Telecom, Telefonica, Telenor,
Teliasonera, Etisalat, Hutchison, Telstra, KPN, and MTN.
ZTE’s Uni-RAN solutions are key profit drivers for
operators. To date, ZTE’s SDR equipment has been used by over 120 operators in
more than 100 countries across the globe.
With 50.7 percent market share in Vietnam, it is one of
the fastest growing telecom operators in the world.
Currently, Viettel is providing communications services
in six countries around the globe, with networks covering nearly 170 million
people, and serving 60 million subscribers.
In January 2011, Viettel won the license for the 1900MHz
frequency in Peru, becoming the fourth mobile operator in the country.
