UTStarcom aims 50% share in Indian broadband infra market

Telecom network provider UTStarcom today said it targets to achieve broadband infrastructure market share of 50 percent in India in 2015 from 35 percent in 2014.

UTStarcom CEO William Wong said: “We look forward to working with a number of telecom carriers and service providers to improve network efficiency and help them offer the vast array of entertainment options, programming features, and mobility that consumers demand via significantly more simplified operations and reduced cost.”

UTStarcom’s main customers in India include telecom service providers such as Bharti Airtel, BSNL, MTNL, Reliance Communications and Tata Communications.

In 2014, it bagged a $24 million contract to support a network enhancement for BSNL. UTStarcom has also supplied more than six million DSL ports into the Indian market that has approximately 15 million wire-line broadband customers.

UTStarcom earlier said it posted third quarter 2014 revenues of $32.3 million and operating loss of $1.9 million from global operations.

In India, the company has begun exploring newer avenues to supply network solutions to national initiatives like Smart Cities, NOFN and Wi-Fi deployment at public places.

Rahul Pandey, director – Sales & Marketing (India and SAARC), said:  “We are the leaders in SDN technology and we expect that SDN technology will play a central role in the deployment of cloud-based computing, storage, and other services, which is already a gathering trend.”
