BASE, a Belgium telecom operator owned by KPN Group, has signed a 5-year managed service deal with Tech Mahindra.
The IT and network deal is for managing operations and roll out of the BASE network in Belgium. Tech Mahindra will be responsible for both network and IT of BASE.
BASE 3G dual carrier network supports speeds of up to 42 Mbps.
KPN Group has invested EURO 548 million in Capex (capital expenditure) in the second quarter of 2013, up 8.1 percent.
In addition, BASE has the aim to cover the majority of the country with LTE end-2014.
KPN earlier said its Capex for 2013 will be EURO 2.3 billion, and EURO 7 billion during 2013-2015.
As per today’s managed services deal, Tech Mahindra will be responsible for mobile site upgrades, maintenance, incident handling, site construction and data centre maintenance for multi-vendor 2G/3G and LTE networks.
“Transferring the day-to-day network operations to Tech Mahindra enables BASE Company to reinforce its focus on providing an excellent customer experience,” said Jos Donvil, CEO of BASE.
Last month, KPN CEO Eelco Blok said the group continued to improve its networks, especially with the accelerated 4G rollout in The Netherlands.
Its customer-centric propositions are increasingly yielding operational results demonstrated by growing triple play in The Netherlands and strong postpaid net additions and data growth in Germany and Belgium. The mobile operator is driving ahead with simplifying processes and improving underlying cost structure.
“This partnership besides addressing the growing needs of BASE Company also positions Tech Mahindra as the only ICT Company providing E2E managed services cutting across both Network and IT operations,” said CP Gurnani, CEO & MD, Tech Mahindra.
