Ooredoo will bid for 3G license in Algeria.
Ooredoo is keen to play a role in enabling Algerian developers and young innovators to create local apps and content.
The Algerian market is currently one of the high growth markets for Ooredoo in its global footprint, alongside Indonesia, Qatar, and Iraq.
“We welcome the Algerian authorities’ decision to begin the process for granting 3G licenses. As a long-term partner in the growth and development of the telecommunications sector in Algeria, Ooredoo will participate fully in this process,” said Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al-Thani, chairman of Ooredoo.
The revenue of Nedjma, which is operating in Algeria, increased 19 percent to $523.6 million in H1 2013. The company has nearly 10 million customers.
The company has invested more than $338.9 million in Algeria in the last 18 months.
The telecom operator has already invested in 3G-ready technology and network enhancements that position it to deliver the best coverage, performance and range of services for customers.
