SK Telecom, Samsung develop real time mobile streaming technology

SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics completed the development of real time mobile streaming technology and achieved the world’s first demonstration over commercial LTE network.

Users of legacy live video streaming over mobile networks could watch sports games such as soccer about 15 seconds later as compared with TV or IPTV users. SK Telecom’s real time mobile streaming technology eliminates this inconvenience and offer better customer experience.

SK Telecom says True Real Time Mobile Streaming Technology, applied with MPEG Media Transport (MMT) standard, improves live mobile streaming experience for smartphone and tablet users by significantly reducing latency.

SK Telecom to expand LTE speed

During the live demonstration of the latest technology with Btv Mobile, SK Telecom’s mobile IPTV service, SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics reduced latency by 80 percent to record 3 seconds.

As part of the future plans, the companies will jointly promote diverse research and developments for performance improvement and stabilization of the technology.

SK Telecom said commercial service of the latest mobile streaming technology will be available in 2015.
