Qatar mobile operator Qtel signs contract with Huawei for FTTH project

Telecom Lead Middle East: Qatar mobile operator Qtel has
extended its contract with Huawei for its Fiber to the Home (FTTH) project.

Qtel is serving more than 660 million people in the
Middle East, North Africa, the Asian Subcontinent and South-East Asia.

Waleed Mohamed al-Sayed, Qtel Qatar chief operating
officer and Xiao Ning, Huawei country manager (Qatar) signed agreement.

Qtel signs ZTE for WCDMA and LTE solutions

Recently, Qtel selected Chinese telecom gear marker ZTE
for rolling out GSM, WCDMA and LTE solutions across Qtel Group operations in
the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. The new technologies will benefit
customers across the Group’s companies including Asiacell, Wataniya
Kuwait, Nawras, Tunisiana, Nedjma and Qtel.

Qtel’s fiber broadband roll-out will cover an additional
90,000 connections, which will bring the broadband penetration close to 100
percent of the households and enterprises in Qatar.

Qtel Fiber will provide a host of benefits for Qatar as
well as making an important contribution to the educational, commercial and
governmental sectors.

It is important strategic alliance that will contribute
to the growth and development of Qatar, making it one of the best-connected
countries in the world. The role out of these additional 90,000 connections has
already begun. We have already laid fiber passing 126,000 homes, have connected
30,000 homes to the fiber network and 10,000 households are already enjoying
the fiber services,” said Al-Sayed.

Huawei welcomes this opportunity to continue this alliance
with Qtel and support the company in the development of advanced services to
Qatar. We are also delighted that Qtel have shown their continued trust in the
relationship with Huawei,” said Ning.

It is the largest infrastructure project of its kind to
be implemented by Qtel, with Internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps, and will change
the way people experience online education and entertainment.

Advanced bandwidth capacity will support new business applications
as they benefit from some of the fastest Internet speeds in the region.

The QR1bn Qtel Fiber project supports Qatar National
Vision 2030, which aims to transform Qatar into an advanced country capable of
sustaining its own development and providing a high standard of living for all
its people and generations to come.
