Nokia Networks signs IoT deal with Oi Brasil

Nokia Networks today announced its deal Oi Brasil to develop Internet of Things (IoT) solutions using LTE in Latin America.

Sao Paulo, Brazil-based Oi Brasil and Finland-based Nokia will set up Latin America’s first LTE IoT lab that will bring together expertise in the IoT domain, provide LTE-based solutions to enable machine-to-machine (M2M) communication for the connected world.

There will be a fund to support the investments in innovation. The fund will finance projects within IoT verticals such as agribusiness, connected cars, homes and smart cities and e-health.

The IoT lab is expected to open in Rio de Janeiro in the first quarter of 2016. The strategy of the IoT lab will be to bring advanced Cellular IoT solutions to the market, including LTE technologies for machine-to-machine communications, to meet the connectivity needs of future communication systems.

“Oi is focused on driving innovative solutions to meet the needs of our customers in the changing communications market. The new IoT lab in cooperation with Nokia Networks will allow us to come up with new technology ideas and place Brasil on the global map in terms of IoT development,” said Pedro Falcao, head of Network Technology and Systems at Oi Brasil.
