Lumos Networks completes technology test of Cisco 100G coherent DWDM solution

Telecom Lead America: Networking major Cisco announced
that Lumos Networks, a fiber-based service provider, has completed a technology
test of Cisco’s 100G coherent DWDM solution.

 

With this, Lumos Networks can meet customer demand for
high-capacity bandwidth on its 10G fiber plant by deploying 100G line cards in
its current Cisco ONS 15454 platforms.

 

Lumos Networks serves carrier, business and residential
customers over a fiber network offering data, voice and IP services. Lumos
Networks serves Virginia, West Virginia and portions of Pennsylvania, Kentucky,
Ohio, and Maryland over a 5,800 route-mile fiber network.

 

Leading telecom service providers worldwide are preparing
for the next-generation Internet to facilitate the increasing demand for video,
collaboration, and distributed computing.

 

Cisco claims that its 100G DWDM technology delivers
industry-leading performance and port density, which makes it possible to
implement 100G technology in multiple existing networks.

SURFnet demonstrates Cisco 100G DWDM solution between Amsterdam
and Geneva

 

SURFnet, a Research & Education Network (NREN)
organization in Netherlands, has completed a technology test of Cisco’s
100G DWDM solution between the National Supercomputing Center, SARA, in
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, using the Cisco
ONS 15454 M6 Multiservice Transport Platform.

 

The Cisco system uses dense wavelength-division
multiplexing (DWDM) to unite multiple optical carrier signals on a single
optical fiber, leading to several benefits including increased fiber capacity.
