Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and ZTE Corporation have partnered to transform digital connectivity in Indonesia, leveraging ZTE’s microwave technology to extend high-speed communication to rural and remote areas.
Indosat Ooredoo will be deploying over 550 ultra-capacity microwave backbone links, covering nearly 80 percent of major cities and remote islands.
ZTE’s technology integrates features tailored to Indonesia’s environment, such as multi-frequency Ultra Broadband Antennas for cost efficiency, weather-resistant hardware for long-term reliability, and energy-saving capabilities for rapid deployment. The scalable design allows capacity expansion by up to eight times and coverage extension to underserved areas.
This initiative has significantly increased Indosat’s subscriber base, with backhaul capacity in regions like Sumatra and Kalimantan rising to 2-3 Gbps, with peaks of 6 Gbps. Residents now enjoy enhanced access to real-time information, online education, and digital entertainment, while local economies benefit from job creation, tourism growth, and advancements in healthcare and education.
Kevin Chen, Sales Director at ZTE Indonesia, highlighted the partnership’s role in advancing Indonesia’s digital transformation.
Desmond Cheung, CTO of Indosat, emphasized the commitment to bridging the digital divide and unlocking economic and social opportunities.
