Telecom network vendor Huawei on Monday announced the construction of its Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Open Lab to mobile operators and partners.
The NFV Open Lab is composed of three labs, located in China, Germany and the USA.
Huawei’s NFV Open Lab aims at boosting research and collaboration for global telecom networks supporting NFV/Software Defined Networking (SDN) and cloud-computing technologies.
The strategy of Huawei is to ensure that NFV solutions and carrier grade infrastructure are compatible with NFV standards and with the Open Platform NFV source (OPNFV).
Huawei in a statement said that its NFV Open Lab focus on the integration of telecom NFV/SDN and cloud technologies, testing, technical showcases and certifications for the NFV industry.
Michael Howard, Infonetics Research’s co-founder and principal analyst for carrier networks, earlier said that the global telecom service provider SDN and NFV market will reach $11 billion in 2018.
Revenue from new SDN and NFV software expects to make up 20 percent of the total SDN and NFV market in 2018. NFV infrastructure hardware such as servers, storage, switches will make up about 12 percent of the market in 2018.
Revenue that comes from newly identified segments of existing markets: mostly the virtualized network functions (VNFs), and also ports on routers, switches, and optical gear that have become SDN capable makes up the largest slice of the SDN and NFV pie, 68 percent in 2018, according to Infonetics Research.
