Huawei, China Mobile verify TD-LTE-Advanced technologies to improve network performance

Huawei and China Mobile have verified the multiple core TD-LTE-Advanced technologies that will improve entire TD-LTE network performance and user peak throughput.

The two companies verified TD-LTE-Advanced technologies including FDD/TDD Carrier Aggregation, MSA, 256QAM, inter-site CoMP, and MU-MIMO.

The verification was done in a field test conducted at Chengdu Electronic Technology University, said Huawei.

The field test focusing on TD-LTE Advanced technologies — established by China Mobile, Huawei, and Chengdu Electronic Technology University – will accelerate the development of the TD-LTE-Advanced industry and speed up scale for commercial use of these technologies.

The test has enabled China Mobile and Huawei to validate the CA peak throughput by considering a scenario where LTE TDD is the primary cell and LTE FDD is the secondary cell. The air interface test results reached the theoretical peak data rate corresponding to a used network configuration of 250Mbps, said Huawei.

LTE Multi-Stream Aggregation (MSA) between TD-LTE and LTE FDD sites were both tested, with the results showing flexible handover or traffic concurrency for users, based on network coverage, load and interference.

As part of the field test, China Mobile and Huawei validated MU-MIMO with four data streams based on an 8-antenna network, which resulted in a peak data rate improvement of 100 percent. The test result for inter-site CoMP on a PTN-based network also showed a 30 percent increase in throughput for cell edge users.

In addition, Huawei accomplished a TD-LTE indoor and outdoor test with 256QAM to become the world’s first vendor to successfully conduct a high-order modulation test. Compared to 64QAM, 256QAM enables a 33 percent peak data rate gain, and a cell average performance improvement of more than 20 percent in an indoor test environment.
