Huawei bags optical network deal from Korea Telecom

Huawei digital visionTelecom network and software major Huawei today announced its 100G optical transport network deal with Korea Telecom.

Huawei will supply its 100G multi-service optical transport network (MS-OTN) solution for Korea Telecom’s metro packet-optical transport network (POTN) project – promising a large-bandwidth and efficient unified transport platform to deliver services including home video, mobile broadband, and VIP leased lines.

Korea Telecom is one of the world’s first operators to commercialize Giga access and offer 4K video services. Telecoms are deploying LTE / LTE-A services in South Korea, and VIP leased lines and home broadband services, especially for 4K videos, are gaining rapid adoption.

To simplify network architecture and improve operational efficiency, Korea Telecom plans to build a bearer network for ultra-HD video, 5G, and high-quality leased line services.

Korea Telecom will gain from a unified transport network that can support increased traffic and performance requirements for key applications. Huawei’s MS-OTN solution features large capacity and multi-service unified transmission. Huawei claims that this solution is designed to build a metro network with simplified architecture that guarantees an optimal user experience.

Huawei MS-OTN solution implements the unified grooming of ODUk, packet, and virtual container (VC) services.

It supports the unified receiving and processing of time division multiplexing (TDM) and packet services, adapting to new services such as HD video, mobile broadband, and large-granularity leased line services. The solution provides on-demand bandwidth resources and shortens time to market (TTM), improving operational efficiency.

“Huawei MS-OTN solution will help Korea Telecom build a unified transport network with simplified architecture, maintaining Korea Telecom’s leading market position, improving its operational efficiency, guaranteeing an optimal user experience, and helping it achieve business success,” said Jeffrey Gao, president of Huawei Transmission Network Product Line.
