The Sweden-based telecom equipment maker is looking for 5G equipment deals with Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone, BSNL and Reliance Jio.

Ericsson India has launched Street Macro, a new radio product that assists mobile operators to grow in cities with limited available radio locations.

The company has also launched new radio products that support Massive MIMO technology. These products enable a smooth evolution from 4G to 5G and address the need for increased capacity.

Telecom engineers and business leaders will gain because they can convert all radios from Ericsson Radio System delivered since 2015 into 5G NR-capable radios by a remote software installation.

Ericsson study on mobile broadband says evolution to 5G will enable 10 times lower cost per gigabyte than current 4G networks.

“Ericsson’s Street Macro adds a new layer in the network layer to boost capacity enabling service providers to cater to the growing demands of data users. Our studies in fact indicate that Enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) will be the first large-scale global 5G use case,” Nitin Bansal, managing director of Ericsson India.

Ericsson said has signed 39 memorandums of understanding with service providers for 5G trials. Ericsson has also signed several commercial 5G contracts with deliveries already by the end of this year.
