Ericsson signs smart city deal with Sterlite Technologies

Telecom network equipment maker Ericsson today announced its smart city deal with Sterlite Technologies.

Both Ericsson and Sterlite Technologies, a provider of transmission solutions for the telecom and power industries, will work together to drive Smart Sustainable City initiatives in India.

Ericsson will associate with Sterlite to design a roadmap and deploy solutions and services required to create a knowledge-based society.

The smart city alliance is aimed at designing, deploying, integrating and managing solutions in areas such as communications, public safety, intelligent transport and smart grid solutions — in line with Indian Government’s vision of Digital India.

Chris Houghton, head of Region India, Ericsson, said: “Ericsson is playing a crucial role in creation of the Networked Society and is a driving force in changes that are taking place in the business landscape of many industries.”

Communications such as Wi-Fi networks and fiber deployment, Public safety such as video situational awareness solutions and emergency response, Intelligent transport like traffic management and fleet management and smart grid solutions such as smart grid communications and smart metering are part of the focus areas of the smart city deal.
