Ericsson India revenue drops 20% due to spectrum auction delay

Telecom network and software maker Ericsson today said its sales in India fell 20 percent to SEK 2.4 billion or $280.4 million in the second quarter of 2016.

Ericsson India said a delay in telecom spectrum auction slowed investments among Indian mobile operators, impacting sales negatively. Professional Services business of Ericsson India continued to progress positively. The India government is considering the spectrum auction in September 2016 targeting to mobilize $83 billion.

Ericsson India generated SEK 1 billion (–46 percent) revenue from networks, SEK 1.3 billion (+18 percent) from global services and SEK 0.2 billion (+11 percent) from software support solutions in Q2 2016.

Ericsson in a statement said that second quarter revenue contribution from India was 5 percent, 26 percent from the United States, 8 percent from China, 3 percent from the United Kingdom and 3 percent from Italy.

Ericsson India had 22,541 employees in June 2016. The total employee base of Ericsson was 116,507 during the second quarter of 2016.
