Devicescape provides WiFi Data Offload solution to republic wireless

Telecom Lead America: republic wireless, a division of
Bandwidth, has tapped WiFi offload services from Devicescape to deliver its
disruptive new wireless service.

 

Devicescape’s WiFi offload services  brings Hybrid
Calling technology, which will be utilized by republic wireless phones utilize
to leverage WiFi as the primary network with cellular as a backup only when
needed.

 

“With the inexorable growth of public WiFi, it’s
easier than ever to be a WiFi person. Devicescape’s CVN of millions of high-quality
hotspots is key to broadening the market for dramatically more affordable and
fair smartphone plans for millions more people,” said Brian Dally, SVP
& GM of republic wireless.

 

The selection of Wi-Fi offload service supports republic
wireless’ subscriber business model of $19 per month for unlimited voice, text
and data.

 

The company said that achieving high WiFi utilization is
essential to its subscriber business model. Now, republic wireless will use
Devicescape’s Offload Service with Curated Virtual Network (CVN) of 8 million
strong Wi-Fi hotspots.

 

The high density of the CVN combined with automated
discovery leads to high rates of WiFi usage and improved economics for republic
wireless.

In Februrary this year, Devicescape announced that the
Devicescape Offload Network grew by more than 10x in 2011, reaching 5.5 million
hotspots globally.
